Engagement terms

Anu (Parmjeet) Kaur provides freelance and project-based paralegal support to licensed immigration attorneys and law firms. Nothing on this site is an offer of legal services to the public. The clauses below govern engagements unless counsel and Anu agree otherwise in writing.

1. Supervision & ethics

   All paralegal services are provided strictly to licensed attorneys and law firms, under direct attorney supervision. Anu Kaur does not provide legal advice and does not offer direct legal representation to members of the public. Every engagement is conducted in strict adherence to the California Rules of Professional Conduct, and the supervising attorney remains the lawyer of record and the sole source of legal advice on the matter.

2. Attorneys only — scope of service

   Engagements are accepted from licensed attorneys and law firms only. Anu Paralegal is not a law firm, is not a public legal clinic, and does not accept matters from families, individuals, or end clients. Requests from the public cannot be taken on, and no attorney–client relationship is formed with a petitioner, applicant, or beneficiary at any point.

3. Deliverables

   Flat-fee packages include the full production set for the filing, prepared and organized for counsel's review:

   • Intake data extraction from the materials counsel provides
   • Complete USCIS, EOIR, or consular form preparation
   • Exhibit indexing and tabbing
   • A formal cover letter draft

   Work product is submitted for final attorney review and approval before filing. Filing decisions, legal strategy, and signature remain with the supervising attorney.

4. Zero-risk revision commitment

   Every flat-fee project includes comprehensive, prompt revisions at no extra cost — until full attorney satisfaction and final sign-off prior to filing. Revisions within the agreed scope of the package are never billed separately. Substantive changes to the underlying case posture, or additional filings not in the original package, are quoted from the fee schedule before the work is taken up.

5. Hourly casework

   The standard hourly rate is $45 per hour, applicable to RFE and NOID response drafting and ad-hoc firm overflow that falls outside a flat-fee package. All RFE and NOID responses are drafted strictly under attorney direction, following legal instructions from counsel that outline the requested evidentiary points and strategy.

6. Expedited & rush turnaround

   A surcharge of $100 to $200 applies to 24–48 hour deadlines, subject to availability. Rush capacity is confirmed in writing before intake materials are sent, so counsel knows the window is secured before relying on it.

7. Turnaround windows

   Turnaround times published on the fee schedule are stated in calendar days and begin once complete intake materials have been received. Where a package involves declaration drafting, the extended window shown for that package applies. Incomplete intake pauses the clock until the missing material arrives.

8. Communication & responsiveness

   Attorney inquiries and email updates are monitored and responded to within 12 to 24 hours. Email at contact@anuparalegal.com is the primary channel for case correspondence and status updates, which keeps a written record on the file.

9. Consultations & case conferences

   To ensure dedicated focus and uninterrupted drafting, phone and video conferences are scheduled in advance through a calendar booking link rather than taken on demand. This protects the delivery windows committed to every other matter in progress.

10. Conflict screening

    A formal conflict check is conducted prior to commencing any new assignment. Comprehensive conflict-of-interest screening is mandatory and is completed before any confidential case data is received or a freelance matter is onboarded. If a conflict is identified, the assignment is declined and no case material is retained.

11. Confidentiality & case data

    All case files, client information, and work product are treated as confidential and privileged material belonging to the retaining firm. Case data is used solely to complete the assigned work, is never shared with third parties, and is returned or disposed of at counsel's direction on completion of the matter.

12. Independent contractor status

    Anu Kaur operates as an independent contractor, not as an employee, partner, or agent of the retaining firm. Engagements are project-based, with no retainer and no minimum volume commitment. Fees are quoted from the published fee schedule and confirmed in writing before work begins.
